Frequently asked questions about wooden bikes

Isn’t a wooden bicycle heavy?

The Wood Bike’s frame is hollow, so it’s also light. The frame weighs around 2.5 kilograms, depending on the model, size, type of wood used and other accessories. That is roughly one kilogram more than frames made of typical materials. You can easily make up the difference in weight by buying lighter wheels, which can save you more weight than frames. At this weight, wooden frames are comparable in all other parameters to steel, aluminum and carbon frames. And wooden frames surpass all others in riding comfort and beauty.

Won’t it crack?

Wood has been used to make boats, cars and airplanes, and is also suitable for making bicycle frames. Every frame meets all requirements for riding safety and is made of carefully selected hardwood of the highest quality. For maximum strength, all components are glued using a professional epoxy adhesive.

One, two or three colors?

You can only choose one type of wood. Here the maxim holds true that there is beauty in simplicity. If you would like a more colorful bike, it is possible to combine two or three different colored types of wood.

Isn’t rain a problem for the frame?

The wooden frame is coated with several layers of the highest quality epoxy and polyurethane varnish. That’s why you don’t have to worry about rainy weather or washing mud off your bike.

How long does it take to make a bike?

Creating a custom-made wooden frame is an art which requires time. The process includes selecting suitable wood, determining the specifications, adjusting the frame geometry, as well as dozens of hours of cutting, milling, sanding, gluing and varnishing. All of this takes 10 to 12 weeks of work, after which you can look forward to home delivery of this gem.
